1. First check the condition of the ax. If the head is loose or broken, repair it .You have to sharpen the edge and clean the blade of the ax if you feel it is dull or unclean. Head of the ax is kept on a hard surface and filed across the edge diagonally. Then, hone the edge to make it smooth.

2. Wear safety goggles to protect your eyes and sturdy work gloves to improve your grip before you begin chopping wood.

3. There should be enough space around the wood to swing the ax.

4. Hold the ax with your hands. Distance between the hands should be six inches. Bend the knees keeping the feet slightly apart.

5. Log should be struck at slight angle. While swinging the ax, don’t bring it above your head or behind the back because if you lose control of the swing, you will injure yourself.
